The central purpose of our school is to provide an appropriate education for all the children suited to their age, aptitude and ability.
Our Curriculum as a total programme will be worthwhile, demanding, relevant and provide as much first hand experience as possible. Visits to places of interest and visitors to the school will play an important part in the life of the school. the Curriculum will be concerned with the development of children intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically and morally, so that they may lead full and useful lives now and later.
We aim to promote purposeful teaching and learning that develops lively and enquiring minds, gives the enjoyment and satisfaction of doing tasks well. The setting of work which offers challenges appropriate to the age and aptitude of the child is extremely important.
In our ever changing world it is not only the skills and knowledge of numeracy, literacy and oracy that are important. We will provide our children with a broad Curriculum including the Arts, IT, Technology, Science and Project Work. Our Curriculum must be seen in terms of Activity and Experience.
The Curriculum will also be balanced in that it allows the adequate development of each area. Various curricular areas can reinforce and complement one another so that skills, knowledge and concepts can be developed.
It is essential that our school helps each child to grow and become confident, competent and self-reliant adults.
If our school is to flourish then the capacity of the family to contribute towards the child’s development in all aspects of growth needs to be strengthened.
The co-operation and awareness of parents is fundamentally important therefore our aim must be to enlist their help and explain to them, exactly what their children are doing.
It is also an aim of the school to teach children to behave in a socially and morally acceptable way and a great deal of importance is attached to children learning to live together amicably.
At the end of the Primary phase we hope that each child will have found enjoyment in a variety of aspects of school work, and will have gained satisfaction from his/her achievements.
We hope that the education given at Trelales will assist the child in becoming a well balanced member of society.
